Bogotá, Colombia · Available for remote work worldwide

I find what the
record hides.

Thirteen years of cross-border investigations — the Paradise Papers, Odebrecht, conflict minerals — now pointed at markets, supply chains, and the systems that publish the findings.

Selected work

Reporting that ran in El Espectador, Mongabay, La Marea, OneWorld and Cuestión Pública.

FinTara · InsiderFinance Wire 2025 — present

The markets desk, in English

Independent English-language coverage of equities, macro and congressional trading — a hundred posts built the way I build an investigation: SEC filings, 13F positions and insider-transaction data read from the record, then written in plain English. Published at FinTara and syndicated to InsiderFinance Wire on Medium.

Connectas · El Espectador 2017

Paradise Papers — the Colombia chapter

Part of the Paradise Papers’ 100-outlet global consortium. I worked the Colombian slice of the leak: offshore structures tied to Ecopetrol, to then–Defence Minister Gabriel Silva Luján, and to the circle around President Juan Manuel Santos. The findings ran in El Espectador and in the consortium’s public database.

    An invisible bank in Luxembourg

Part one of a four-part investigation into the European Investment Bank — a lender almost nobody has heard of, behind a line of flagpoles in the Grand Duchy, whose appetite for electricity “at all costs” reshaped a Kenyan valley. Preserving traditions without harming the girls

The UNICEF count is 145 million girls and women cut — and the practice is not only African: new evidence put it in Iran, the Gulf and Southeast Asia, and in the immigrant communities of Europe. Then to Kenya’s Loita Hills, where the Maasai are testing an alternative rite of passage: the ceremony intact, the knife gone. Full text kept as a PDF.

Investigations & due diligence

Registry work, leak analysis and network mapping — the file behind the story.

  1. 2022

Odebrecht: who signed off the $11M

Reconstructed the authorisation chain behind the Ruta del Sol bribes from SIC Resolution 67837 — shell-company flows, Grupo Aval executives, and the then–attorney general’s position in the network.

  3. 2020

Legislative due diligence: Sabemos lo que hiciste

    Cuestión Pública

  4. 2019

A 1979 property deal, traced forward

Historical due diligence on a real-estate transaction between a future head of state and an associate of the Ochoa Vásquez cartel, rebuilt from property registries, law-enforcement records and biographical sources.

  5. 2022

The desk

What I build when I’m not chasing a document.

FinTara 2025 — present

A bilingual markets publication, with the newsroom automated

Independent EN/ES coverage of equities, commodities and macro — plus the research desk behind it: a multi-agent pipeline that scouts, checks sources, drafts and publishes on a self-hosted VPS. A fundamental-data screener is in development, built on Sharadar and DuckDB.

Tara English 2025 — present

About

Reporters and analysts do the same thing: read the file until it gives something up.

I started in newsrooms in Bogotá, went to Amsterdam to learn data journalism with OneWorld, and took an MA in Data Journalism at Tilburg University on a full merit scholarship. In 2017 I worked the Colombian side of the Paradise Papers alongside Connectas and El Espectador.

In 2018 I co-founded Cuestión Pública and spent seven years building it — editorial strategy, the systems that produced the reporting, and the social desk that carried it to 143,000 people. Its investigations went on to win the Premio Rey de España, the Premio Simón Bolívar, the Premio CPB and the SIP award.

Now I work where the two halves meet. Due diligence for people who need to know who is actually behind a company. Market research in two languages. And AI pipelines built so that the evidence — not the model — decides what gets published.

Method Documents first, narrative second. If it isn’t in the record, it isn’t in the story.
